The main aim of establishing Business Activity Zones is to increase attractiveness of cities and counties in the region and creation of new workplaces. The Zones that have been established in the Silesian region were created on the areas where mines were liquidated and on post-industrial areas. Due to the fact investment potential of cities and counties from the Silesian region could be taken advantage of and attractive investment area were created.

In Silesia region the following Business Activity Zones were created:

• Communal Business Activity Zone "Węzeł Jeleński"
• Business Activity Zone - Marklowice
• Business Activity Zone - Piekary Slaskie
• Business Activity Zone – Siemianowice Slaskie
• Tarnowskie Gory Business Activity Zone
• Wodzislaw Business Activity Zone
